The Cricut Explore Air 2 runs through Design Space, a browser-based app that guides you through the cutting process. You pick a design from a library or upload a file, set your material, and cut. The software handles the machine settings.
The Silhouette Cameo 4 runs through Silhouette Studio, a desktop application that feels closer to a vector design tool. If you use Illustrator, Affinity Designer, or Inkscape, Studio's workflow will feel familiar. File import is more direct, and you have more control over cut paths and blade settings.

2. How important is working offline?
Design Space requires an internet connection to function fully. There is an offline mode, but it is limited to a subset of the design library. If your workspace is a garage, a studio, or anywhere with spotty Wi-Fi, this is a real constraint.
Silhouette Studio is desktop software. It runs without a connection after installation. You can design, set up cuts, and run the machine entirely offline. If internet access at your workspace is unreliable, the Cameo 4 is the more practical choice.
